God in the Old Testament is like a moody teenager, going from 0 to 100 real quick. From peaceful to wiping out the entire earth, he's not one to mess with. The Old Testament God is a bit trigger happy, wiping out whole cities and turning people into pillars of salt. A real drama queen. 🌪️🔥💀

📖 The biblical god of the Old Testament is described by some as a god of wrath especially when comparison to how God is portrayed in the New Testament where some described him as a god of love.

🔍 To Believers and atheists alike there can be something of a discrepancy between the god of the Old Testament and the god of the New Testament where one is more resembling of a forgiving father type figure and the other is more about Not For First Time have I seen the Old Testament God described as a god with dark side.

According to traditional Believers it's not so much the case that the God is trigger happy but that more violent side is just another part of God who like us is multifaceted.

🤔 Steven fry refers to God as monstrous and even as a maniac words indeed but ones do reflect the opinion those might have on a deity that destroys cities spreads famine and diseases and at one point drowns the entire world.

🌊💔 However, if we were to consult with the traditional believer they might say that actions are justified and that these acts are not random vindictiveness but rather owe to those who have done wrong.

📜 In today's episode we'll be analyzing each and every time God snuffs someone out of existence.

🕊️ And hopefully we'll have a more sense of what God's final kill count looks like by the end of Genesis.

Genesis Chapter 6 Flood

🌍 What may surprise some readers is the Old Testament God is pretty peaceful for the first six chapters of Genesis. Even after being betrayed by Adam and Eve and later scorned by their son Cain, it isn't until chapter 6 of Genesis does start to get annoyed by the disobedience and disrespect shown to him by humankind.

📖 The Lord regretted that he had made human beings, the earth, and his heart was deeply. It's with this notion that God decides that humanity needs a reboot and so decides to flood the Earth.Interesting in some respects God goes from 0 to 100 having killed no one to killing well the entirety of the Earth with the exception of Noah and his family who were spared for their piety.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🌧️ We are told every living being on the land perished, including birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures and mankind.

📊| People on Earth at time of flood estimated |

|-------------------|

| 49 million |

Genesis Chapter 19 Sodom and Gomorrah

🔥🔙 It isn't until God confides in Abraham that he's thinking about destroying Sodom and Gomorrah we once again get a glimpse of this more dangerous and version the biblical god.

🔢| Estimated Population of Sodom 600 |

|-------------------------------------|

⬆️ When Abraham hears of God's plan to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah he tries to vouch for the cities by a deal with God. With this, God promises not to destroy the cities if Abraham can find righteous men. It would seem apparent that Abraham was unsuccessful in his mission because before long God annihilates the two cities to the point that in the morning the only thing left of the area was smoke.
